Razer BlackWidow Stealth Edition Specs, Price, Review

Razer, the world’s leading high-end precision gaming brand, is emerging from the shadows to unleash a flurry of hurt with the Razer BlackWidow Stealth Edition mechanical gaming keyboards. Razer Blade Specs, Prices, Review — True Gaming Laptop

The PC industry today has never looked bleaker. The world’s largest PC-maker Hewlett-Packard just announced their intention to explore the separation of its PC business. With PC manufacturers increasingly abandoning design and technology in lieu of outsourcing and cost-cutting, the PC industry has seen a severe dearth of innovation in recent years. Gaming consoles have also taken advantage of this innovation slump in the PC industry to garner attention from game developers and gamers alike, to the extent that now PC versions of cross-platform games are often sub-par ports of their console counterparts.

Razer, the world leader in high performance gaming hardware, introduces the Razer Blade – a full aluminum chassis gaming laptop featuring true portability, incredible performance, and an all-new revolutionary user interface. With the introduction of the Razer Blade – a feat of modern-day systems engineering and technology, Razer is reinvigorating technological and design innovation for the entire PC industry, and encouraging gamers and developers to return to the PC as the primary gaming platform of choice.

Mobile systems developed for gaming today compromise on portability and form factor for game performance. While such machines run games well, they are over 2 inches thick and can weigh more than 10lbs. The Razer Blade measures 0.88 inches thin, less than half that of current mobile gaming systems, and weighs only 6.97lbs, achieving a balance between portability and performance – making it the world’s first true gaming laptop.

Developed in partnership with Intel, the Razer Blade features a fast Intel® Core™ i7 processor and a high performance NVIDIA GeForce® graphics processor. The hardware was designed to run the most demanding games of today without sacrificing the laptop’s portable form factor. The Razer Blade also does not compromise on screen size as it comes with an incredible LED-backlit high-definition 17” display.
The Razer Blade features the Switchblade User Interface - Razer’s multi-award winning, highly intuitive interface technology. The interface is comprised of 10 dynamic adaptive tactile keys for easier access of in-game commands, and an LCD capable of two modes: one mode that displays in-game information when a mouse is in use; and another mode that functions as an ultra-sensitive, multi-touch panel designed for gaming on the go.

“The Razer Blade was designed to give gamers a laptop they could truly use on the go,” said Min-Liang Tan, CEO and Creative Director, Razer. “Its sleek, lightweight aluminum construction makes it the thinnest 17-inch gaming laptop available today.”

“We’re proud to co-develop this revolutionary gaming laptop with Razer,” said Mooly Eden, VP and General Manager of the PC Client Group, Intel. “Utilizing our fast Intel® Core™ i7 processor, the Razer Blade delivers top-class gaming performance in a portable form factor.”

“Powered by an advanced NVIDIA GeForce® GPU with award winning NVIDIA® Optimus™ technology, the Razer Blade has the muscle to run cutting edge games with intense graphics while still offering amazing portability,” said Rene Haas, General Manager of Notebook Products, NVIDIA.

“The Switchblade User Interface on the Razer Blade is a revolutionary innovation that truly defines the new standard for gaming experiences on a laptop,” said Min-Liang Tan.

Nintendo Will Slash 32% Off 3DS Price in August

It's confirmed: The Nintendo 3DS is ailing.

These past weeks random reports have been surfacing that the 3DS was already tanking, the PSP outnumbering it on units sold 2 to 1. I refused to believe it at first but it seemed inevitable because reports kept on persisting.

And just today, Game Informer broke word that Nintendo president Satoru Iwata is going to have his annual salary cut by 50%—that's approximately $1 million—to make up for company losses and for Nintendo to be able to afford the significant price cut their failing handheld will have. This just means that when the Nintendo 3DS hits the $169.99 mark on August, the company will—instead of profits—have losses on each 3DS unit sold. From a financial standpoint, that's really really bad. Or they could possibly planning for a comeback: Sell lots of units for a loss, release a slew of games for profit.

And like I said above the PSP, being as old as it is, is selling units against the 3DS 2 to 1 i.e. for every 2 units of PSP sold the 3DS only sells 1. If Nintendo is in this awful shape as early as now, imagine what would happen when Sony's new baby the PS Vita comes out in early December. That would surely make any CEO shit bricks.

I think I'm going to buy a 3DS now. Imagine, they were selling for $249.99 retail. Now they'd be on stores $80 off. That's awesome. I hope these prices will reflect in the Philippines immediately.

'Till my next installment.

It's very accurate to say that the Blackberry Playbook app store has expanded significantly since the date when this list was compiled. Go check the official Blackberry Playbook app store for more updates.

Anyway, RIM has officially stated that it will expand its application ecosystem for the Blackberry PlayBook to include BlackBerry Java and Android-based applications. In a press release, RIM states that developers simply repackage, code sign, and submit their Android apps into BlackBerry App World. For now, the PlayBook will only support Android 2.3 apps.

RIM has also stated that the compatibility with Android applications will be included in a software update of the BlackBerry Tablet OS.

Sadly, the Blackberry Playbook pre-order period by Globe has already ended. But like I said, it's going to hit here in just a couple of days.

Razer Switchblade Firsts Intel Atom Z690, Boasts Configurable Keyboard

Razer, the world’s leading high-end precision gaming brand is now showcasing the Razer Switchblade concept device running some of the most popular video games of today. Working together with Intel, the Razer Switchblade concept is the world’s first device to use the Intel® Atom™ processor Z690 running at 1.70 GHz.

This iteration of the Intel Atom processor is capable of running games at a higher level of performance with its faster clock speed; a 13 percent boost over previous models*.

Razer has also already announced key Chinese independent software vendors such as Tencent and ChangYou who have pledged to support game optimization for the Switchblade User Interface.

“Intel is very excited to be working closely with Razer on the next generation of mobile handheld PC gaming,” said Brad Graff, consumer marketing director, Netbook and Tablet Group, Intel. “The Razer Switchblade concept takes advantage of the Intel Atom processor, providing the performance needed to run 3D PC games in a small and light form factor to enable mobile gaming at significantly less power than a traditional laptop.”

“PC gaming on a truly mobile platform has not been possible before the Razer Switchblade,” said Min-Liang Tan, CEO and Creative Director, Razer. “Our work with Intel allowed us to not only optimize the performance of the hardware on this concept device, but also lay the foundation for future products that will fully utilize the innovative technologies first developed on the Razer Switchblade concept.”

The Switchblade Concept

The Razer Switchblade concept is a revolutionary mobile PC gaming device that allows gamers to play on-the-go without giving up the precision and control normally associated with a desktop gaming system. Integrating a multi-touch seven-inch screen, an innovative adaptive tactile keyboard, user interface and housing the next generation Intel Atom processor, the Razer Switchblade concept delivers the full desktop experience in a netbook-sized solution.

The Selling Points

As mentioned, the Switchblade is the first gaming-dedicated laptop to carry the Intel Atom Z690 processor, the latest in the Intel Oakrail series and possibly the only thing powerful enough to carry the Switchblade with flying colors.

Another selling point is its configurable keyboard. Say you're playing an FPS game that heavily relies on number and WASD keys. Theoretically, you would be able to maximize your performance in the game by configuring the keys in their optimum positions.

Lastly, it's said to be able to do HD playback.

There's no word yet on the Switchblade's pricing and final release date (concept, R&D). Personally I'm curious to see the commercial release of this thing.

Cherry Mobile Releases R7 Vigor & R9 Tough With Robin Padilla

Cherry Mobile—the Philippines' #1 producer of affordable and quality mobile phones—recently gathered the local press corps at Quezon City for. Dubbed as the "Shocking Revelation", Cherry Mobile released their newest and toughest cellphone units, the R7 Vigor and the R9 Tough. They also introduced the super-charismatic Robin Padilla as their newest endorser.

The R7 Vigor and the R9 Tough

Affordability and quality are two words that hardly mix in tech products today. High grade electronic items and peripherals sell for thousands of pesos. Affordable products on the other hand are readily available everywhere but has an average lifespan of one to two months, weeks even. This dilemma also applies to cellphones. Nevertheless Cherry Mobile once again showed its strength in the mobile communications industry by releasing the R7 Vigor and the R9 Tough.

Both these phones have shown excellence in the press event's live demonstration. Aside from having the basic requirements of this decade's phones i.e. built-in megapixel cameras and radios, LCD displays, loudspeakers, internet connectivity and function etc., it also has a shocking feature which most phones doesn't have—resistance to shock.

In the live demonstration, both the R7 and the R9 have been dropped at approximately 5ft and thrown to a distance of about 8ft by Robin Padilla himself, just to survive both breakage attempts. The only damage that both phones took were minor scratches and bruises at the rubber casing.

There was also a testimonial of the R9 Tough surviving a car's worth of weight. It was allegedly purposely rolled over by a live car's tire. Whilst cracked and crushed, the R9 still was able to function.  If it is to be believed, both these phones must be currently the toughest phones in the world.

The R7 Vigor and the R9 Tough both have very rugged looks, akin to military-like GPS systems and two-way radio systems. Both phones are available in a variety of colors. The R7 Vigor sells at P1,999.00 while the R9 Tough is at P2,399.00. (Click images to enlarge)

This R9 model reminds one of Bumblebee

Robin Padilla as Newest Endorser

To strengthen its position in the local mobile communications industry as the leading value-for-money and feature-packed brand of phone, Cherry Mobile introduces its newest brand ambassador: action movie star and TV personality Robin Padilla.

“It was an easy decision to choose Robin as our new brand advocate. Just like Cherry Mobile, Robin has a natural charisma that easily draws the public. He represents the average Cherry Mobile user who lives an active yet practical lifestyle. Robin is the ideal guy to bring us to the next level,” said Maynard Ngu, Chief Executive Officer of Cosmic Technologies, Incorporated.

Robin is undoubtedly one of Philippine showbiz’s most dashing and talented male actors. Dubbed in the '90s as "The Bad Boy of Philippine Action Movies," Robin Padilla is now clearly considered the opposite – focused, spiritual, and determined. He has gained and regained, through the years, the kind of credibility and charisma that would make consumers trust in his product choices.

“Isa pong malaking karangalan para sa akin ang maging Brand Ambassador ng Cherry Mobile. Hinahangaan ko po ang Cherry Mobile, isang tunay na tatak Pilipino, sa kanilang layunin na gawing abot-kaya at de-kalidad ang mga cell phones na dual-SIM na, puno pa ng ibang features. Sa Cherry Mobile, lahat ay nagiging kunektado. (Being a Cherry Mobile endorser is really an honor. I admire Cherry Mobile, a true home grown brand, for bringing affordable and quality handsets with dual SIM capabilities and other unique features available to all. With Cherry Mobile, anyone can stay connected.)” Robin shared.

I personally talked to Robin Padilla about his feelings on these two phones and his endorsement to Cherry Mobile, and based on his answers I should say Cherry Mobile did the right decision on picking Mr. Padilla as their newest brand endorser.

“Robin is our shockproof mobile phones personified. He is tough and rough to survive all the blows that he has encountered in his life and career,” said Agnes Conopio, Marketing Head.

Robin joins the ranks of other Cherry Mobile endorsers, John Lloyd Cruz and Kim Chiu. With this dream team of brand ambassadors, Cherry Mobile is set to continue to captivate the local mobile communications industry and deliver products that fit everyone’s lifestyle.
